Two suspects were arrested after they broke into an apartment complex and stole motorcycles.

San Mateo, CA – On October 21, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., two suspects were arrested in connection with an auto theft and residential burglary.  The two suspects, Matthew McGettigan and Floyd Cooper, were located in South San Francisco in possession of the two stolen motorcycles.  McGettigan and Cooper were arrested for burglary, auto theft, and possession of stolen vehicle.

San Mateo Police Department received a 911 call from the victim saying his two motorcycles were stolen.  The motorcycles were parked inside of a gated parking garage on the 400 block of East Hillsdale Boulevard.  Police learned the victim had placed a tracking device on one of his motorcycles.

Officers spoke to witnesses and obtained video surveillance video showing a red Toyota Tacoma truck arriving at the apartment complex, then leaving with the two stolen motorcycles.

Using the tracker that was attached to the motorcycle, officers learned the stolen motorcycles were located on the 1300 block of Veterans Boulevard in South San Francisco.  With a coordinated response with South San Francisco PD, we went to the location.  Officers located two suspects, Matthew McGettigan and Floyd Cooper, the two stolen motorcycles, and the red Toyota Tacoma truck used in the crime.

McGettigan and Cooper were arrested and booked into San Mateo County Jail.  The stolen motorcycles were returned to the victim.

This arrest highlights the hard work and dedication our officers have in solving crime and keeping our community safe.  The collaborative effort between South San Francisco PD and our department was important to the successful apprehension of the two suspects and the recovering of the stolen motorcycles.

Protect Your Ride, Track Your Car.  We recommend car owners use a GPS tracking device and place it somewhere in your vehicle and link it to a smart device like your phone.  Should your vehicle ever be taken, with the use of a GPS device the likelihood of officers recovering the vehicle faster, reducing the potential for damage caused to your car, and arrested the suspect increases dramatically.
