ARSON ARREST – Last Friday (October 20, 2023), our officers responded to the area of El Camino Real and Hickey Boulevard, on the report of a brush fire. South San Francisco Fire Department personnel responded and were able to extinguish the fire, which had spread from El Camino Real to a nearby residence on Duvall Drive.
Simultaneously, the Colma Police Department received a call from a witness, who observed a male intentionally lighting the fire. Colma police officers contacted and detained a 34 year old unhoused male while he was walking away from the scene of the fire. The male was found to be in possession of a lighter and was positively identified by witnesses.
The male was subsequently arrested for arson and brought back to our police department. Officers checked other arson cases and were able to tie this same male to at least two more arsons in the City of South San Francisco. Our detectives are conducting follow-up investigation to determine this male’s connection to additional unsolved/unreported incidents.
From the witnesses, SSF Fire Department, Colma PD, and our officers and investigators… Great collaborative work!
