CALTRANS SAFETY ENHANCEMENT PROJECT ON STATE ROUTE 82 (El Camino Real)
Caltrans is continuing a safety enhancement project in the city along State Route 82 (El Camino Real) between September 2023 and February 2024 (weather dependent). The project includes installing accessible pedestrian signals and countdown pedestrian signals at various locations. Work also includes painting red curbs from crosswalks to enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Adding the red curbs is expected to enhance the sight lines between a pedestrian waiting to cross at the crosswalk and approaching traffic. Because of the safety enhancements, some parking spots are being removed.
Project will be impacting two locations in South San Francisco at Country Club Drive and Ponderosa Drive.

I emailed the City about this disaster, how many of you South City residents are sick of these officials spending
our money like its their own? I know there are subcommittees on certain aspects of the city, maybe it was their
dumb idea, but why don't we pull together and put a stop to some of the madness that is happening here. I
work nights, so its hard for me to attend evening meetings,who can be the voice for reason to represent us? I
know of one, if he would be interested, Phil Fioresi.

Kim Hightower as far as I’m aware, that’s a bike lane, but it’s also at a bus stop, so there’s a little ramp and
platform so bikes can still use the lane uninterrupted while having a level place for bus riders to get to the bus
since it can’t pull up to the curb with the bike lane there

Being a South City resident for many years, I have to agree with the others. I've never seen a cyclist use the
dedicated bike lane and understand the impact on the local business'. And, when a samTrans bus is stopped
at the bus stop, instead of pulling out of the lane of traffic, it totally blocks lane # 3 of El Camino Real, which
causes a back up, especially during peak hours. I'm always a supporter of road/highway safety for all,
however, our tax dollars can be put to better use.

An unnecessary and dangerous thing. First this path is where the bus stop is. It is elevated so people can walk
across from the sidewalk. But the bus has to stop in the right lane. Thus messing up car traffic for a bike thats
not there.
Also that path is in the street parking lane on El Camino so when a car is parked they have to go around
anyway in the lane.
Then the bike has to go over the little elevation. Hope he doesn't try to go through the gutter. He will eat it hard.
