April 24th Armenian Genocide Commemoration Day

What a difference one person can make. John Kevranian, a San Bruno resident from South San Francisco, is a son, husband, father and business owner of a retail store in Burlingame.  He has lobbied long and hard to bring acknowledge to a wrong that was put upon his Armenian ancestors by the Ottoman-era Turkish in the 1915’s when 1.5 million Armenians were put to death in the Armenian Genocide.  Kevranian’s grandfather was a survivor of these atrocities and died in 1980 in Burlingame. Grandson John Kevranian has challenged those in the Armenian community to stand up on this 97th anniversary and speak out by way of letters and messages to all who will listen. John’s tireless efforts rested on the ears of San Mateo County Supervisor Dave Pine who has written up a proclamation that will be signed by the Board of Supervisors proclaiming April 24th 2012, as Armenian Genocide Commemoration Day.

Maryland Congressman John Sarbanes also came before Congress on April 18th and asked the Members of Congress and President Obama to formally recognize the Armenian genocide.

George Santayana a 17th century philosopher, essayist poet and novelist is quoted as saying, “Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

What a difference one person can make, thank you John Kevranian.
