801 Grand Avenue South San Francisco Circa 1974

South San Francisco, CA  Feb 28, 2013 Submitted by Raul Antonio Gomez (updated 7/2022}

This historical home was built by W.J. Martin, located at 801 Grand Avenue, on the corner of Grand Avenue and Eucalyptus, in 1893. This was the 2nd building erected in our City.

Martin has been known as the ‘Father of South San Francisco’ due to the tremendous growth our City experienced under his leadership. Martin was appointed to manage the Land Company and ran the South San Francisco Rail Road and Power Co. Martin Elementary School was named after him.

Raul tells us this photo must have been taken in late 74.  The Gomez family lived there from 68-74. The house burned down on Aug 2, 1974 and was later designated as a historical site.

The Gomez Family resided here prior to the fire in 1974
