DUI & Driver’s License Checkpoint Nets 7 Arrests
South San Francisco, CA – The South San Francisco Police Department completed a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint last weekend on Saturday May 3rd on Westborough Boulevard at West Orange Avenue. The operation was completed between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. DUI/Drivers License Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.
Drivers License checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries. A major component of these checkpoints are the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired, bringing about more awareness and encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers. Drugged driving arrests are on the rise and are an increasing problem in South San Francisco and across the State of California. Drivers are reminded that although it may be legal to use medical marijuana, you cannot drive while under the influence of it.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent. Ninety Percent of California drivers approve of checkpoints.
During the checkpoint, a total of five drivers were arrested for driving under the influence.
Three of the drivers were under the influence of alcohol and two of the drivers were under the influence of drugs. One driver was under the influence of marijuana and the other was under the influence of cocaine. In addition to the DUI arrests, a passenger in one car was arrested for a felony drug possession warrant, and another passenger in a different car was arrested for possession of cocaine.
The final statistics for the checkpoint operation were:
883 Vehicles Screened
3 DUI-Alcohol suspects arrested
2 DUI-Drug impaired suspects arrested
1 Suspect arrested for possession of illegal drugs
13 Drivers cited/arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed or while suspended/revoked 1 Arrested on other Criminal Charges
The South San Francisco Police Department will be conducting additional DUI/Drivers License Checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols throughout the year in our ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways.
The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Report Drunk Drivers – Call 9-1-1 !

I was stopped and found to have a McDonald’s Strawberry Sundae in my possession. They seriously should have confiscated it.
