UPS awards $5,000 Grant to the Boys & Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County in South San Francisco
On July 16, UPS awarded a $5,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Club. The grant supports homework and tutoring programs. Rosemary Turner, UPS President of the North California District, presented the UPS Grant to the Club at the Grant Presentation event. Sharon Dolan, the Club’s Chief Professional Officer, accepted the grant on behalf of the non-profit organization. The $5,000 grant will go towards funding a comprehensive academic support program that includes homework help, tutoring and STEM programs designed to raise the academic proficiency of Club members.
At the event, a team of thirty UPS Executives and Managers donated their time assembling back-to-school backpacks filled with educational tools for the Club’s summer youth program along with sorting donations of toys and other items for children.
“Kudos to UPS for giving back to the community,” said Mayor Matsumoto. “We are pleased to have them in South San Francisco.”
For more than 50 years, the South San Francisco Boys & Girls Club has promoted the positive development of generations of young people. Since its inception, the Club has provided youth between the ages of 6-18 with a safe haven to participate in structured and stimulating activities outside of school hours. The Club’s programs are designed to support academic support, physical and emotional health.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of North San Mateo County include five sites within South San Francisco and Pacifica. The three Clubs in South San Francisco are located at 201 West Orange Avenue, 291 Hillside Blvd., and Sunshine Gardens Elementary School (1200 Miller Ave).
