South San Francisco, CA July 15, 2016 Submitted by John Horgan, SSFUSD
The South San Francisco Board of Trustees has agreed to accelerate construction at Buri Buri Elementary School. Board members voted unanimously July 13 to authorize a total of just over $1.2 million for work at the Buri Buri site. Interstate Grading & Paving, Inc. of South San Francisco was awarded the bid. The funds to pay for the work will be provided by Measure J construction bonds. Interstate Grading & Paving was the only bidder on the project; a second bidder had to pull out of the process at the 11th hour because of an error in its calculations. Trustees, with Board President Patrick Lucy absent, expressed concern that the cost of the project exceeds its original budget by about $800,000. They requested budgetary options for addressing that excess.
Can’t imagine why any reputable contractor would want to bit on a SSFUSD project.
That’s likely what we are seeing here.
Contractors are very busy anyway.
Why bid on a project from such a rocky school district?
