South San Francisco, CA September 21, 2020 Submitted by SB Lion Peter Carey
With the cancellation of this year’s San Mateo County Fair, our local 4-H Club members were deprived of the opportunity to sell that which they worked so hard to raise, as is their annual custom.
4-H stands for HEAD, HEART, HANDS, HEALTH, and is the cornerstone of the work they perform and the lessons they learn.
While 4-H members might be most well known for raising prize-winning livestock, they also learn farming techniques and grow amazing fresh produce, and create delicious cakes and cookies. Further, they participate – and win!- robotics competitions and perform dramatic productions.
And like the San Bruno Lions, they help in the community.
All of their projects and activities showcase the values of the 4-H Club; Head, Heart, Hands, Health reflecting their motto ‘To make the best better.’
On Saturday, September 19th, the San Bruno Lions presented a $2,500 donation to the kids who raised livestock but were unable to sell at the County Fair, helping them to recoup some of their expenses. Mayor Rico Medina shared the presentation with family, friends, Lions, as well as 4H’ers.
