South San Francisco, CA August 15, 2022
Friday August 13, 2022 was the last day for any candidates to file and qualify in the November 2022 election for elected positions with the City of South San Francisco and with the South San Francisco Unified School District, along with a few Measures from each agency.
The City of South San Francisco contest has only two positions unopposed, City Clerk and Council representative for District 3, Rosa Govea Acosta and Buenaflor Nichols, respectively will retain their seats.
We welcome the challengers to this contest as we know it will bring about many necessary conversations regarding the direction our City is taking, and how this impacts each district, now that our elections are no longer ‘at large’.
New to the campaign trail is Angelique Presidente, Thomas Carney, Brittany Burgo, Annie Lo, Steven Kassel and Amanda Anthony, thank you for bringing new blood to the race!
We look forward to robust conversations as our community leaders step up to represent us in the manner we decide on our ballots in November by District/Area.
The City Council is also putting forth two propositions on the ballot; one to allow the City to acquire property to build low income housing, the other to enact an annual parcel tax on specific commercial properties to pay for childcare. To view both of these bond items CLICK HERE.
In addition, there is one SSFUSD proposition which would require 55% approval to pass the ‘South San Francisco Unified School District Neighborhood School Safety, Renovation, and Local Control Measure’ authorizing $436,000,000 sales which would be realized in property tax increases to fund. To view this measure CLICK HERE. {It is important to note a similar measure relating to school facilities was put before voters in 2010, which passed, allocating $162 Million, that resulted in a forensic audit which declared Mismanagement of Funds. Also on the 2022 ballot we will find School Board Trustees Area C, D, and E as follows:
Area C – Incumbent unopposed Chialin Hsieh, Area E Incumbent unopposed Mina Richardson, and the two new candidates for Trustee Area D Steven Kassel and Amanda Anthony
Please note, California Government Code Section 6254.21 states: “No state or local agency shall post the home address or telephone number of any elected or appointed official on the Internet without first obtaining the written permission of that individual.” Therefore, the addresses and telephone numbers of all candidates, treasurers, contributors, and expenditures will be redacted from the City website.
I would not vote for any of these clowns.
