DonorsChoose.Org Offers Teachers Funds Needed: ESC Chooses SSFHS Aaron Boyd for 2019

South San Francisco, CA   August 28, 2019

Every year our kids go back to school, leaving us parents with thinner wallets and higher credit cards, yet our students are still not able to receive the very best of their teacher’s efforts due to financial constrictions. Every year Everything South City puts out the word about the DonorsChoose.org program and what our local teachers are hoping to receive via the fundraising efforts. And we find one class to offer some help, albeit, only a few hundred, yet we know, every dollar counts! We encourage those in our community to do likewise, if they can! CLICK HERE to see the needs by all our participating teachers.

There really is so much need, on all levels, and too often our teachers and paraprofessionals are taking money out of their checks to help, which is so unbelievable as we live in one of the wealthiest places on the planet! How can this be? We encourage everyone to look at the list of teachers, and what they are seeking, pick out your hero and help by contributing, sharing the information with others, and remembering them during the year when other ways of support become available. We are fortunate to have Genentech offer STEM programs to many of our youth, yet there is still need from many teachers. And because we know not all our students will follow science futures, we applaud the diversity of programs offered, which include Mr Aaron Boyd’s Visual Arts Program at South San Francisco High School.

Everything South City is proud to support Mr Boyd’s programs by making a $250 donation to DonorsChoose to help them reach their worthy goals.

For those that may not know, Mr Boyd’s ‘Video Art Sports Broadcasting Program’ was highlighted at the San Mateo County Career Technical Education Steering Committee Meeting, among other noteworthy accolades. The Sports Broadcast Program produces over 40 live sports events a year which are broadcast on the NFHS Network and are available to watch afterward on their YouTube page: youtube/southcityvideoart.

His students are trained in all the aspects of live video production in a real world setting which produces a professional event that benefits not only students, but promotes school athletics and positively represents our school in the community. The class produced a fantastic video showcasing their behind the scenes sport broadcasting work.

Further, it is not only Mr Boyd’s focus on this program, but his focus on OUR kids, that has caught our attention here at Everything South City. As reported in our SSFHS 2017 Warrior Post, and reprinted in the El Tecolote, Mr Boyd helps his students be aware of those less fortunate by having them serve at St. Anthony’s, while at the same time he advocates for our homeless students. Which again is unbelievable, given this wealthy area, in California, which boasts being the FIFTH biggest economy in the WORLD. How do we have homeless students?

The May 2018 the Business Insider detailed our wealth in this easy to see list, yet it is difficult to understand when our students cannot afford a place to live, much less school supplies.

Here is how the 15 largest world economies look if you also include US states (in bold) as separate entities per 5/18 Business Insider:

1. United States $19.391 trillion
2. China $12.015 trillion
3. Japan $4.872 trillion
4. Germany $3.685 trillion
5. California $2.747 trillion
6. United Kingdom $2.625 trillion
7. India $2.611 trillion
8. France $2.584 trillion
9. Brazil $2.055 trillion
10. Italy $1.938 trillion
11. Texas $1.696 trillion
12. Canada $1.652 trillion
13. New York $1.547 trillion
14. South Korea $1.538 trillion
15. Russia $1.527 trillion

As prestigious as this seems, to be the 5th economy in the world, the reality is far too many are being left behind right here in our own community.

As we continue to say, it really does take a village to raise our kids, and we express gratitude for all that take part in our village, with a special acknowledgement this 2019 to Mr Aaron Boyd!

“Our past Students have been amazing and have been producing quality programming for many years.” says Mr Boyd.”Our school serves low income students who usually don’t have any access to quality video production equipment, so we can use all the help we can get to acquire the equipment needed to provide a quality education.”

So, what is on Mr. Boyd’s wish list for his students (CLICK HERE and see below)?
